RE: Is it legal to leave the drawbar/ball in when not towing?

Leaving it in is fine, if that's your kick, BUT just wait until you forget it's there and back into someone. Then the fun starts. :)

RE: 08 F-150 SuperCrew - 4.6 or 5.4?

I can think of many, better, more useful grocer getters than a full sized truck. But, maybe, that's just me.

RE: Is it legal to leave the drawbar/ball in when not towing?

Why are people so worried about somebody "touching" their precious truck? To go to the point of leaving a giant hitch sticking out the back so IF someone walks near it, they get a nice little bang on the shin? I don't get it.
Caddy makes excellent points, we all pay for increased insurance claims, whether you want to admit it or not. That's all I have to say, I said earlier, out of courtesy for others, and my Family too, I remove mine. Others apparently do not care one whit.

RE: Gas prices and people getting stupid!!

The best way to STOP a run on gas is to raise the prices at the pumps. IF I was a station owner and folks were lined up 4 deep for no reason, other than rumors, I would raise the price too. IF folks will gladly pay it, why not?

Personally, I don't care if it's a LAW or not. I remove mine when I'm not towing. For my well being, and others.

RE: Almost $40,000 for a Jeep wannabee?

Hummer is Chevy's Lexus. It is all about showing the neighbors you can afford to spend and extra $15,000 for self-image, compared to the less costly brand on the same platform.
The LS, GS and SC share ZERO platforms with Toyota.

Oh well, I didn't see who started this thread. I assumed by "4x4", he meant truck.

I have the CASH, and wouldn't consider buying a 40K NEW vehicle. There are too many nice vehicles 2-4 years old that cost MUCH less.

RE: Almost $40,000 for a Jeep wannabee?

Lots of opinions from people who never drove one.
Met some fellows crossing Engineer pass this year with Jeeps. They remarked the trail seemed worse than usual. Not that I noticed. :D
We've been all over Utah and Colorado for the last 25 years with Jeeps and trucks.
This truck has ground clearance and gearing to crawl over trails where stock jeeps are scraping their guts out.
I can have a conversation in a quiet cabin at 80mph on the freeway.
We can and have pulled TT over Wolf Creek pass and many others. And the I-5 can break the speed limit with trailer in tow. I don't mean that 55 mph trailer limit, I mean western states speed limits.
So show me a Jeep that can do all that. Then we'll talk.
I don't see any post above mine from anyone with one bit of time behind the wheel, so...
Fair post, in my opinion. I'm glad we can drive what we want.

RE: Almost $40,000 for a Jeep wannabee?

You'll note it's built on the Chevy Colorado Assembly line....and shares it underpinnings with it. It also shares a modified version of the Chevy Colorado platform, and the weak, noisy and thrashy standard 5 banger engine.
I had an Audi with a 5 cylinder once, and it wasn't "thrashy" at all.
But I do agree, not the right product for today.

RE: Honda US Sales surpass Dodge/Chrysler

Comparing apples to apples trim level as far as Minivans:
Chrysler best price $32,500
Toyota best price $33,400
Honda best price $27,600, and the Honda came with the variable displacement engine giving it by far the best fuel mileage.
Only difference in options was the dual DVD screen in the Chrysler, hardly worth $5,000., and it was loose in it's attachment to the interior roof.
Our dealer, Honda of Bowie was actually sold out of the hybrids, Fits, and the gas Civic. They had sold three Ridgelines and six Odysseys the day we selected ours.
OK, now I think I see whats up. You were only comparing the Chrysler Town & Country model, not the Dodge Grand Caravan, it appears. The Chrysler T&C is basically a Grand Caravan, with a bunch of bling-bling, bells & whistles, etc. added on, and price jacked up considerably. If you can live with a little less bling-bling, Grand Caravans can be had for much less than anything you're talking about here. That, and its hardly a fair comparison when the Chrysler had a $5000 option in it that the others did not, LOL. :)
When we got our van (2 years ago), brand new Grand Caravans were going for around $25-6k. Also, they had a bunch of program minivans, that were basically new with a few (10-15k) miles on them. We got one of those for $16k. We really liked the Odyssey better actually, but when I could get an essentially new Grand Caravan for over $10,000 less than what any of the others would have been.....was kind of a no-brainer decision.
Will
I would be curious as to the value of the Chrysler van now, as opposed to the Honda 2 years later.

RE: UPDATE Oil at $60 a barrel?

What would $100/barrel equate in the price per gallon? Diesel and gas. Thanks..

RE: New Dodge/Nissan Titan to have Hemi power

What ALL the half tons NEED is a nice 6 (yes 6) Cylinder Turbo diesel with around 250 HP and 400+ ft/lb of torque. BUT NO, we keep getting bigger and bigger gasoline engines.
Why not just opt for the 3/4 ton Cummins powered Ram and get a heavy duty pickup truck to go with the heavy duty pickup truck engine? The 5.7L Hemi is only 345cid, not a very big gas engine.
I would have liked to have seen the Nissan's 5spd automatic behind the Hemi in the new half breed. Chrysler's 5spd auto is in reality a wide ratio 3spd with two close ratio O/D ratios. The Nissan 5spd's gear ratios are far better suited to a gas engine's powerband.
Mainly because not everyone needs a 3/4 ton+ sized pickup. With a diesel engine rated like I speak of, you would get milage around town near 20 and close to 25 on the road. Ask me how I know? The first Cummins engines were rated about like that, and would return that kind of milage. The newer MORE POWERFUL ones won't touch it.

RE: AWD vs 2WD

It doesn't make any sense to me how the TV would be more stable in AWD, unless you were in a very low-traction situation (like snow or ice). On dry (or even wet) pavement I can't imagine how it would make any difference, except for the possible placebo effect.:)
Having owned a couple of Audi All Wheel Drive cars, yes, you can tell the difference, even in perfect conditions. Yes, it may hurt fuel economy a little bit, and obviously promote a little more drive train wear. These weren't tow vehicles, but none the less, they offer awesome grip in all conditions.

RE: Sold on Dodge Mega Cab...

I was close to going with the diesel, but the extra cost and difference in gas mileage was not enough to make it economically feasible. I figured it would take about 10 years to make up the difference in mileage.
So not true. The mileage on a diesel is so much better compared to the Hemi that it is shameful. Have towed with a Hemi and a CTD and no need to comment any further.
As to the price difference. Not true either...especially compared to the Hemi. In addition, the price difference is made at resale every time.
I'm thinking you haven't priced used diesels lately, much less used trucks.
